First funflector Blogiversary!

Time is going fast when life is fun! I can’t believe an entire year has passed since we launched the funflector Blog, but it has. Let’s celebrate our first blogiversary with some thoughts on our posts!

The purpose of the blog was – and still is – three fold:
– to make it easy for the funflector team to get out news about our safety reflectors and traffic safety
– personal reflections on the world around us
– tell the world about neat stuff that is out there on the market. As a small and new business owner, it takes a huge effort to cut through the noise and let the world know about your products. When we find stuff we like from other small businesses, we are happy to help spread the word!

We know how hard it is to find reflectors for personal use in North America – after all, that’s why we launched the funflector® safety reflectors. However,

the reflectors needs to be found by consumers who are looking for them, so finding them through search engines is key, both as a service for people who are looking for them and for building a healthy business. Most of us use search engines on a daily basis. A few minutes ago, I wanted to find out how to spell “blogiversary”. Blogiversary got 740,000 hits on google while Blogaversery only got 3,400, so that was an easy choice.
It is always fascinating to go through our web site statistics and see how you find us and what you read. No, no, not you personally (we don’t see any of that), I mean you, all our readers! There are, of course, the obvious searches for reflectors in a large number of different phrases, which we are happy to see. There are also some of the more unusual kind.

Al Johnson's Restaurant sign, a Sweden shirt and three crowns safety reflectors.
Three Crowns is one of the oldest symbols for a country in the world.

One of the early blog posts was about the symbol ‘Three Crowns” that we used on two of our reflectors. It is a powerful symbol for the country of Sweden, but it is also exciting  to work with from a graphics design point of view. (That’s why we ended up with two designs, even though we had only planned for one.) After almost a year, it is still one of our more popular posts.

Back to school - backpacks with cool safety reflectors
Back to school – backpacks with cool safety reflectors

In the beginning of the school year it might be difficult for the kids to remember what their new backpack looks like, especially if their classmates have similar or identical backpacks. Judging from the popularity of of our post “Backpack Confusion – No Thanks” I’m not the only mom who had to drive across town to straighten out a backpack mix-up. We are heading out this weekend for new backpacks and to personalize them, the kids get to pick out new funflector® tags. With a 8-year-old who treats the backpack as a bowling ball at the school bus stop, the reflectors from last year as so scratched, that they need to retire.
Halloween safety tip number 1 is to use good quality reflectors. The more the merrier!
In October, web surfers were mostly interested in Halloween stuff and we are glad that they found us! It breaks our hearts to hear about kids being injured or killed by cars because the driver didn’t see them. We wish their parents had known about how easy and inexpensive it is to buy a couple of  pedestrian safety reflectors for their kid’s costumes, coats and backpacks. (With a few mouse clicks, you could have yours in the mail box in a couple days!) Halloween is a night when most kids are out in the dark. To be the fun-filled night everyone plans for, some safety precautions need to be planned as well. Most Halloween costumes don’t have convenient zipper pulls to hang reflectors on, so we showed some alternate ways to attach them.
I hope the reader that searched for “jacket reflector hanging left or right” found the post on where to hang them and decided to hang them both left AND right. After all, you want to be seen from multiple directions!
Oh my, I haven’t even made it to the Holiday season yet and this is already a long post! Let’s stop here today and continue another day soon!
A bientôt (see you soon),
Elisabeth
