Why design safety reflectors in the shape of musical notes and clefs? Because we love music and musical notation is fascinating! But we also want to help musicians and music lovers get home safely after concerts. Our reflectors are stylish and easy to hang on jackets, bags and instrument cases. In other words: perfect gifts for musicians and music lovers! We know how often rehearsals and concerts take place late in the evening. Especially at this time of year, that means coming and going in the dark.
It’s amazing to see the eyes of little girls light up when they find the pink cat safety reflector among all our other reflectors. We’ve seen it become an instant favorite so many times. Not surprising though, considering my own excitement as a toddler for the pink cats my mom appliquéd on my ceiling light. I have to admit that I’m not really a cat person, but cats are cute, cat videos are fun and the graceful pet is a wonderful source of inspiration for any designer and artist. And although different than the cats on my childhood ceiling light, our funflector cat safety reflector was inspired by the style I grew up with in Sweden in the 60’s and 70’s. We realize, not every cat lover likes pink, but luckily, the cat safety reflector looks just as good in other colors. Currently, it is also available in gray, orange and light brown.
Get Some Pink Cat Safety Reflector to Support Human Rights
As you might have noticed, we are fascinated with good design. Bold designs that are good for flags, tend to look great on our funflector reflectors too. We have played around with quite a few flag designs and the bold, red maple leaf on the Canadian flag is one of our favorites. We have safety reflectors with the Swedish and the British flags and also the iconic city flags of Chicago, Washington DC and Amsterdam. Part or our #resist collection are safety reflectors with the maple leaf on one side and human rights and science inspired messages on the other. For each 6-pack sold in our webshop, we donate US$6 to the Sierra Club Canada Foundation.
Musicians and music lovers are at double risk ending up in nighttime pedestrian crashes. 1. They are mostly dressed in black. 2. They often head homewards in the dark after evening concerts and rehearsals. Obviously, these things won’t change, so the easiest solution is to add some reflective gear that fits right in. A black treble clef safety reflector is stylish and blends in with any black outfits. It can hang on instrument cases, jackets, purses, backpacks and bags.
Then in nighttime traffic, it puts its wearer in the spotlight with its reflective power. Thanks to a unique manufacturing technique, …
The typographic symbol “&” or “ampersand”, is a fun squiggle that requires some practice to write smoothly. As the funflector team has worked on the design of our ampersand safety reflector, I remember the proud feeling of accomplishment when, in second grade, I finally got the pen to turn and twist the right way. From a designer’s perspective it is fun to play around with and many different 3D versions has lately made it onto the shelves of many home decorating stores. The Design Hack has written a blog post on the history and their love affair with the graphic beauty and styles of the ampersand and we totally share their love of the design.
If you want to decorate your home with ampersands, there are so many styles, materials and sizes, but how about if you want to decorate your bags or clothing with one? We did not find many ampersand accessories beyond jewelry so we are proud to add an ampersand safety reflector to our 2016 collection. It looks awesome on jackets, bags and purses. Check it out in our webshop here! It is available in a number of colors and even our black safety reflectors are super bright as explained here.
What’s the meaning of the Ampersand?
The ampersands symbolizes the word “AND”, which is the word that brings people together, ties together two disparate things or thoughts, the word that can make 1+1 equal to 3 AND it is the word that if used in the right place, sparks discoveries and innovation! The ampersand is also a reminder that we are not alone, but stronger together. As a friend of mine put it: “I have many brothers and sisters and think of us all strung together by the word AND. So when I se the ampersand, it makes me think of my loving family.” In many languages it represent a very short word AND in English UND in German ET in French OG in Danish even in Finnish where something as simple as 1-2-3 is yksi-kaksi-kolme, the word for “and” is JA. Why is it a favorite for us? When you put AND between thoughts, concepts and models that have not previously been combined, that’s when you get discoveries and innovation! It is also a constant reminder to take one more step, to dig one shovel deeper and take in one more viewpoint. And then what? We’d love to hear what you think of when you see the ampersand. Even in Chicago, it is almost spring – Yay! – and it’s time for the funflector team to emerge from hibernation. Let’s give you a sneak preview of our fall collection that we’ve been hard at work with during the never-ending winter months.
For amateur and pro photographers alike, the funflector® camera safety reflector will look great on your camera bag and backpack. When you are too focused on what’s in your lens at sunset, this reflector will help drivers notice you.
“Is there a ninja school around here?” A friend of ours visiting us on a Saturday night was stressed out when arriving. Not one, but two kids had appeared next his car on the badly lit residential streets. The high schools kids were of course dressed all in black. Luckily, our friend was going slowly enough to stop, but it was stressful, nevertheless. Equip your ninjas with funflector safety reflectors for safer walks around the neighborhood and to keep heart attacks away from drivers.
Our popular treble clef reflector will get accompanied by a much asked for bass clef reflector. We have both cello and trombone players in the family and know about the struggle for bass clef gifts. Musicians are often out at night, on their way to and from rehearsals and performances. These ultra reflective tags look stylish on any instrument case!
Stay tuned for more cool designs coming this summer and fall. Follow us on Instagram, twitter and Facebook to get the news first!
We love when our customers blow us away with unexpected designs! When we first offered promotional slap bracelets, we put the customer’s logo on, sent a proof and after going back and forth, we agreed on size and placement. With the next customer, we wanted to eliminate the back and forth and sent them the template to fill with their own design and wonderful things started to happen. We certainly never expected storytelling taking place on a promotional slap bracelet but check out these designs!
We often surprise people when we tell them they can significantly increase their nighttime visibility withoutclumsy vests and high-viz colors. If you choose a funflector® safety reflector, you can wear stylish designs ranging in colors from from subtle to bold and still increase visibility up to 500 feet. After hearing several independent stories from people whose friends have been hit by cars in Chicago at night, we decided to add the Chicago flag motif to our collection of funflector® slap wraps, our super reflective slap bracelets that can be worn on ankles and wrists by walkers, runners and bicyclists.
We are excited to announce a funflector® wrap with the popular Chicago flag design! It will be available in the webstore on May 9th.
We can’t imagine any Chicago visitors going back home without having noticed the symbolic two blue stripes and four red stars waiving on flagpoles on every block in the windy city. The top blue stripe symbolizes …
Snowflakes are amazing creations. It’s mind-boggling that they are all different. At a time when large parts of the USA and Canada are buried under inches of snow and the northeast is expecting snowmageddon tonight, the uniqueness of each snowflake is hard to comprehend.
The funflector® snowflake pedestrian recflector is currently our bestseller. We’ve shipped to places with and without snow. Could it be that some northerners living in southern states miss snowy winters?
We have noticed how unshoveled sidewalks make people choose to walk or run in the streets more often. Please don’t do that between dusk and dawn without any reflective gear! The icy/snowy roads make stopping hard and when the roads are lined with ploughed-up snow there is nowhere to go. No driver wants to hit pedestrians, but many walkers, runners and bikers are too difficult to see in the dark and crashes sadly happen . 7 out of 10 American pedestrian crashes happen at night and that number could be greatly reduced with reflectors! Mae is a Chicago area realtor and often out and about in the dark. We think she made a fabulous choice for her purse, don’t you?
As you can see above, we have collected some pretty snowflakes on our pinterest board. Many of them, we’ve found on snowcrystals.com where we were surprised to learn that there are over 30 types of snowflakes. Some of the shapes you would not necessarily think of as being snowflakes. The funflector® snowflake pedestrian reflector is of the type “stellar dendrite” which means “tree like”.
We wish for all our readers in the northeast to ride out the snow storm safely and patiently. When the wind has mellowed out and before the cabin fever get’s to you, it’s time to go outside and be amazed by nature’s artwork!
Interest is growing for the funflector® reflective slap bracelets and we thought it would be fun to find some slap bracelet fun facts and other things they have inspired. Most people remember slap wraps or slap bracelets from the early 90’s when they were a fad in schools until the kids misused them so much that the bracelets had to be banned. However, they are like all other products: if you buy good quality and use them with some “common sense”, they will serve you well.
Wisconsin teacher Stuart Anders invented the slap bracelet in the late 80’s and it was launched by the Main Street Toy Company under the brand name Slap Wrap. A slap bracelet consists of a piece of metal that needs a tap or a slap to go from straight to curled up. For comfort and style, the metal is covered with cloth or integrated in a silicon/rubber band.
We’ve seen several stories on the internet about reused metal measuring tapes being used inside the slap bracelet cover, the one with school kids getting naked ladies being the worst. We cut one of our slap bracelets apart to check, and there was no surprise whatsoever, just bare metal. However, we could not get our tape measure to curl like our slap bracelets; instead we learned how a spring loaded retractable tape measure works…
After filing a patent, rumors have been circulating for a while that Apple will release a flexible screen attached to something similar to a slap bracelet. We are still waiting…
In the Ragnar Relays, teams of 12 run a 200-mile relay over two days and one night and use a slap bracelet instead of a relay baton. The Ragnar Trail Relays are similar, but uses scenic trails instead of roads to run on and there is more focus on treating nature gently. Just like the street in Sweden I grew up on (Ragnar Lodbroks gränd), the race got its name after the legendary Norse viking hero Ragnar Lodbrok. Neat! 🙂
There is no stable state between totally straight or completely curled up unless you hold onto it with force. An AA Design Research Lab team in London came up with conceptual design for a flexible office where they imagined giant slap bands attached together to make straight and curled sections. A creative idea, but we are not too surprised that it has not been implemented during the five years since it was suggested. Look at their ideas and models in de zeen magazine and imagine that instead of a box with cubicles as your office!
When soft reflector material became available, extra long and sturdy slap bracelets with a reflective cover became popular in the Scandinavian countries as pants clips for bicyclists. They are easy to use, keep pant legs out of oily bicycle chains and increase visibility at the same time.
Did you know that we are also taking orders for customized slap bracelet reflectors? Right now, you can make as few as 75 with your logo or slogan, but availability is limited! Contact us today for current rates and specials!
