I was driving home a sunny afternoon and suddenly one car caught my attention more than the others. That car had it’s headlights turned on. The sky was already turning pink and 5 minutes later, most cars had their lights on. The human eye is an amazing construction and adapts quickly to the available light.
When being outside during sunset, your eyes fool you for the longest time to think that it’s still quite bright. It’s also easy to believe that you are seen just because you can see. However, when cars with head lights are more noticeable than cars without, that’s when you need reflectors – or turn on your headlights if you drive. It’s of course equally important during the twilight time early in the morning.
As of a week ago, March 8th, Daylight Savings Time is in affect in the US and Canada. Europe will follow on March 29th. That means early morning walkers and runners loose an hour of day light and need to remember reflectors! In the Chicago area, we still see many runners in the roads as the sidewalks are still spotted with ice and snow mush. Be careful out there!
